History of Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home
The Freeman Mortuary has a rich history as Kansas City’s most prestigious funeral home. Freeman Funeral Home was the first funeral home in Kansas City to be built from the ground up. Until that time, funeral parlors were converted homes. It was also the first funeral home in the region to use a motorized funeral coach and later, the first to provide its customers with air-conditioned limousines. Today, the mortuary is managed by the fourth generation of the Freeman family, David L. Freeman, who has managed it since 1981.

In 1963, construction was completed on the facility in use today. Its expansive layout includes a reception area, two chapels, and several arrangement and state rooms. Mount Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home combined in 1984, expanding the services offered to families.
